The Gathering House is a newly constructed, 6,000-square-foot residence that reimagines classic New England architecture for modern living. From its timeless exterior to its carefully layered interiors, the design emphasizes light, openness, and natural materials. The result is a home that feels both enduring and contemporary — grounded in tradition yet built for today’s lifestyle.

 Exterior

The Gathering House captures the spirit of New England design with its traditional siding, barn stone accents, and carefully proportioned roofline. Thoughtful landscaping, multiple porches, and thermal bluestone walkways frame the expansive footprint.

To create a classic yet visually engaging exterior, the design incorporates three siding profiles: shorter planks at the ground level, taller planks on the second story, and shake-style siding on the gable ends. The roof also layers texture and materiality, combining architectural shingles with sleek metal-clad porch and gable roofs. The palette is clean and understated, allowing natural variation and texture to shine.

Interior Concept

Inside, the home unfolds as a sequence of light-filled spaces designed for gathering and everyday comfort. A free-flowing floorplan connects the kitchen, dining, and living areas, creating seamless transitions between rooms.

Throughout, white oak floors in a natural stain provide warmth, complemented by soft white walls and brass-accented lighting that cast a gentle glow. The restrained palette sets the stage for art, furnishings, and natural stone details to add richness and depth.

Kitchen & Dining

At the heart of the home, the kitchen blends function and beauty with a mix of painted and stained white oak cabinetry, natural stone countertops, and brass fixtures. Woven counter stools and open shelving soften the space with casual elegance, while a bank of stained cabinetry conceals the built-in refrigerator. Reeded-glass cabinet doors offer a balance of display and privacy.

The adjoining dining area, anchored by a farmhouse-style table, overlooks the private backyard. A paneled white oak ceiling creates intimacy, while a built-in bench seat adds character and additional seating. Together, the kitchen and dining spaces form a hub designed for both daily living and intimate gatherings.

Living & Connecting Spaces

The living room centers on a barn stone fireplace that echoes the stonework of the exterior. A keystone detail in its design pays homage to Pennsylvania.

The main entryway celebrates volume and light with its double-height ceiling and custom staircase, crafted from white oak with powder-coated metal balusters. These connecting spaces set the tone for the home’s minimal yet layered interior: clean lines balanced with warmth, refined but approachable.

Private Spaces

A sculptural staircase leads to the second story housing the private quarters of this home. Upstairs, natural light and warmth continue into multiple kid’s bedrooms and the owner’s suite. Brass fixtures, quartzite countertops, and neutral tile create serene, timeless rooms. The primary bath showcases a floor-to-ceiling tiled walk-in shower and a freestanding soaking tub, pairing functionality with retreat-like calm.
