At Colonial Charm, we had the somewhat rare opportunity to completely renovate this home from top-to-bottom. Besides the roof and driveway, all interior and exterior surfaces of this home were touched in a meaningful way. The end result is a warm, inviting space that evokes California vibes in a relaxed but refined way. We collaborated with Laken Design on this project, who provided interior design services to reinvent this 60’s colonial.
On the first floor, the original layout was largely retained, with the exception of creating a larger kitchen and informal dining space. The new, open kitchen replaces a formerly cramped space that lacked natural light and storage. The renovated space now features warm neutral paint and wood tones, including a specialty herringbone floor pattern. A favorite feature is the new built-in dining nook within the kitchen for casual dining and informal gathering.
Off of the expanded kitchen footprint, the renovated living room showcases a limestone fireplace surround and warm hues consistent with the rest of the interior space. The living room also provides access to arguably the best room in the house, the sunroom. Creating a vaulted ceiling with an exposed white oak beam provided the foundation for a light, airy space that invites the outdoors in. A heated floor and brand-new windows ensure that this room can be enjoyed year-round.
Throughout the entryway, dining room, and powder room, statement lighting and furniture is on display that creates impactful moments accented by brass tones, natural stone, and fluted casework. A white oak staircase featuring a custom steel railing brings you to the second floor, housing the primary suite and additional bedrooms and bathrooms.
The star of the primary suite, the primary shower, is a large glass enclosure featuring horizontal and vertical tile paired with a natural stone mitered bench. The layout of the second floor was reimagined to combine two bedrooms into the owner’s suite, complete with a walk-in closet and large bedroom.
Outside, the entire exterior received an upgrade made possible by fresh paint, a new entryway including a metal roof overhang and front door with sidelites, and a new hardscaped patio in the backyard complete with a perimeter fence.
