With a 3500 square-foot renovation and custom addition designed by Midland Architecture, this hundred-year-old-plus home in Lower Lawrenceville is now the perfect mix of classic and modern touches.

A COMPLETE INTERIOR RESTORATION AND RENOVATION

This house was originally built by a master carpenter in the 1800s. But like many nineteenth-century properties in Lawrenceville, it hadn’t been touched and was in need of a complete revival. The homeowner wanted to honor its history and craftsmanship by restoring the home’s original details, so we went to great lengths to return every aspect to its full original glory.

We totally renovated all three stories of the home, from the Pennsylvania white oak floors by Allegheny Mountain Hardwood Flooring to the tin entryway ceiling. We meticulously restored the staircase details down to the intricately crafted newel posts and rejuvenated the fireplace trim with Kuiken Brothers interior trim that pays homage to the home’s age. And several well-placed contemporary finishes, including the white oak window returns and updated fixtures, contrast nicely with the traditional elements of this classic home.

A CUSTOM MODERN HOME ADDITION

We built a sleek and modern two-story addition with vertical black siding to the rear of the home. On the main floor, we increased the square footage to open up the kitchen and added a cheery breakfast nook. Double sliding glass doors lead to the private urban backyard oasis and fill the space with natural light. Upstairs, the addition features a new custom bathroom, with a gorgeous Bedrosians Tile & Stone emerald tiled walk-in shower, soaking tub, water closet, dual sinks with a quartz countertop, and plenty of windows to brighten things up.

BUILDING A DETACHED GARAGE AND PATIO

Outside the expanded living area, a tiered backyard leads to a matching two-car garage, which doubles as a deck. This new construction is topped off with an energy efficient mono-pitched roof and the airy green space is enclosed with a privacy fence.
