This bustling Sewickley family home was remodeled with a small mudroom addition that gives way to a spacious kitchen designed by Gwen Dakis of dragonARCH consulting. The home’s exterior siding and select windows were also replaced.

COMPLETING A MAJOR
KITCHEN RENOVATION

Our clients host a weekly family dinner with their children and grandchildren, and they felt it was time for an upgrade. Including bumping out the mudroom and renovating two bathrooms, our experienced team completely overhauled the craftsman-style kitchen. An Urban Tree island and breakfast bar, both fitted with custom black walnut countertops, were added as centerpieces of the redesigned space. To complement the Wolf six-burner dual griddle gas range, the client’s son – founder of London Pattern Metal Works – fabricated a custom matte hood, which also pairs perfectly with the brass campaign hardware adorning the cherry cabinets.

Over the The Galley Workstation sink, a new bay window bathes the kitchen in natural light. The striking blue tile backsplash and mosaic were laid out in a custom pattern – a time-intensive but worthwhile endeavor that helps create a peaceful and inviting atmosphere. Lining the Bosch refrigerator, blue cabinets introduce a fun pop of color, resulting in an eclectic mix of traditional cherry tones and a transitional blue. The built-in coffee bar with mesh-screen cabinet above is a team favorite. The Hubbardton Forge pendant light captures the essence of the space.

THE EXTERIOR RESTORATION

The home’s exterior also needed an update. The siding on the upper stories showed signs of extensive wear and was ready for replacement. We swapped out the deteriorating cedar shingles with new cedar shake and installed a number of new windows throughout. This not only rejuvenated the home’s appearance but also made it much more energy efficient.

Now the clients have an even more inviting hub for hosting cherished weekly family dinners and creating enduring memories. That made this project even more rewarding for us and truly a Family Affair.
